My Reno – Part 1
It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve finally decided to start renovations in my home. It’s been a few weeks and I’ve decided to share the progress with you. Recently, I was interviewed by a blogger – Kat, and chatted about my decision to reno my home. Hope you enjoy it!
Tell me a little bit about your home and why you love it?
My home is in an area called the Golden Triangle near Pape and O’Conner, near the Danforth, better known as Greektown. It’s a fully detached, 4 bedroom home with an income apartment in the spacious basement.
I love my home because of its location. It’s steps away from my family home, where I grew up and where my parents still live. Additionally, the Danforth area offers many restaurants and shops that are nearby and easily accessible. I chose this particular home not only because it is close to my parents but also for its charm and character.
How long have you lived in your home?
I’ve lived in my home for 10 years.
What is your favourite part about your house?
I’d have to say my favourite space in my home is my large master bedroom. The best part for me, is the view, which looks onto a lane way that backs onto the ravine system that runs through the Don Valley area. There is beautiful greenery and loads of wildlife. We actually have a resident groundhog named Ramsey which visits us often.
What made you decide to renovate your home?
I decided to renovate because of the current layout of the first floor. The original floor plan had a living room on either side of a kitchen. Thus the kitchen is in the middle of the house. I always envisioned that my kitchen should be located in the back of the house, which opens up the space for a large living room and comfortable dining space.
I also wanted to update the finishes in the kitchen, since they are still original from the previous owners over 10 years ago. I wanted to have the kitchen finishes reflect my personality and most importantly, add longevity to the home, while standing up to everyday use.
What goals do you wish to accomplish with this renovation?
The biggest goal I am looking to accomplish is creating an open concept layout on the main floor by relocating the kitchen and removing most walls between the living room and the existing kitchen. Doing this, allows me to add a much needed first floor powder room.
Most importantly, this will allow me to have a large dining table where I can finally host dinner parties and have friends and family gather at my home! Currently, we have celebrations at my parents’ house and I’d love to continue with that family tradition.
I am looking forward to having a home that is functional and brings my family together! Stay tuned for updates!
