My Kitchen Renovation
I’ve been living in my home for a long time and finally decided it’s time for a renovation. I had two living rooms that were separated by the kitchen, which made the main floor not as functional as it could be. I ended up always using the living room at the back of the house and the front became a storage space.
It’s important to me to have family and friends over for dinners and with the current layout, it was a challenge to have people gather comfortably. I had the idea of moving the kitchen to the back of the house and combining the rest of the space to make it one big open concept. This would make room for the large dining room table that I always envisioned having.
When thinking about the design for my kitchen, I was looking for something fresh and modern. I wanted a design that is timeless that will provide the space for a large dining room table for my family dinners.
I knew that taking on this renovation is a lot of work, so to ensure my kitchen is beautiful and functional, I enlisted the help of a professional kitchen designer to aid me with the plans. I worked closely with Allure Interiors to design my dream kitchen. The ideas they had for the space I would have never thought of – including a beautiful waterfall countertop and a coffee bar!
When starting out the design plans, I was very inspired by large family style island and functional pieces like the coffee bar with a sink and its own mini fridge. I also chose to invest in a stove that is almost like a focal point in itself.
I planned and designed this kitchen to my taste and lifestyle, keeping in mind the longevity of the design should I decide to downsize in the future. I chose classic finishes and door style, a shaker door with a twist.
The biggest improvement after the renovation is that I am able to host family dinners and have the rooms connected and flow with one another. I am happy to have my main floor function as one space and looking forward to spending more time entertaining!
